Recently converted by local craftsmen to the highest standard, Alpha Rise offers something a little different to typical holiday cottages. An ideal base to explore the central section of the Roman Wall and to enjoy the taste of rural village life without compromising on comfort.
Set in beautiful dramatic countryside on the border between Northumberland & Cumbria. Gilsland has a pub, House of Meg tearooms and Gilsland Spa Hotel. Discover the Irthing Gorge and see the Popping Stone where Sir Walter Scott popped the question to Miss Charpentier. The Roman Wall passes through the village with Poltross Burn Milecastle only a ten minute stroll from Alpha Rise. To the West of the village a fine stretch of the wall leads to the River Irthing, where a metal bridge was built at Willowford in 2001, providing a continuous route to Birdoswald Roman Fort.
